The visit of the governor of Beirut Marwan Abboud
BAU president Prof Amr Galal Al-Adawi welcomed
Beirut Governor Judge Marwan Abboud to launch
the execution of Tarik Jdideh Urban Regeneration project.
The President of Beirut Arab University, Prof. Amr Galal El-Adawi, welcomed the Governor of Beirut, Judge Marwan Abboud, on the university’s campus in Beirut, and was accompanied by the Head of Planning and Works Committee in the Municipal Council, Eng. Muhammad Saeed Fatha, and the Director of Engineering in the Municipality, Eng. Jihad Al-Bikai.
The visit was devoted to presenting the project for the redevelopment of Tariq Al-Jadida and Cola Region, which was prepared in the Faculty of Architecture- Design and the Built Environment under the supervision of the Dean, Professor Ibtihal Youssef El-Bastawissi. The Dean gave a detailed presentation on the stages that the university worked upon, starting with a competition among students who submitted 25 projects which was then filtered into two projects and finally into one project.
Furthermore, several studies and workshops that the Faculty of Architecture worked on alongside a group of international experts that aims to enhance the performance level on the urban spaces within the city, which helps in reducing the pollution levels and contributes to improving the quality of life amongst the citizens.
The governor praised the efforts accomplished by the Faculty of Architecture, and expressed his willingness to implement the project staring with the first phase of improving the traffic circulation in this urban area.
At the end, BAU president along the Beirut Governor toured the BAU Beirut campus facilities and the BAU Museum (History of Civilizations and Cultures), which includes several unique manuscripts
